I planned on showing WIPs and the final result of the work I'd gotten, but it turns out a few things have changed and the job got canceled. I guess I jumped the gun on my previous post. Next time I won't post about things unless I have something worth showing. I did do a little work, but it's so trivial it isn't worth showing. This may be a slight bump in the road, but it hasn't stopped me from moving forward, so stay tuned as awesomeness continues!
While setting up to do my own thing, I come across an email in my inbox. Apparently someone saw my demo reel and has now asked me to do some work for them. I've got my first job!!!!! Not even a week out and I already have people coming to me with jobs! Chalk it up to luck I guess. Anyways, I've now got a lot to do and a little time to do it (as it usually goes). Around 18 seconds of animation (plus a few other things) do on the 28th. A little scary for me, but I can do it! The next few posts will probably be works in progress of the job (since I was told I can talk about it, no NDA). Stay tune as awesomeness continues!
With classes done and 6 months before the banks start chasing me down for the monies, I want to try a few things. Now, before even thinking of going to school to makes games, I was already making my own. It was a hobby. And now that school is done I want to try and pick that back up! I want to make and sell my own games! At the moment I'm working on my own, but that isn't a bad thing. I like knowing how to do it all. It's fun to learn and fun to implement!
Super smart friends of mine tell me if I want to make my own games, START SMALL!!! Nothing kills a game slower than over-scoping. It's disheartening when you put many months into it and still can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, plus if you're using it to pay rent, you need it done to sell. I think it would be a good idea to start small anyways! Good practice for all those impossibly big ideas, of which I have several. And, if I complete them and sell them I can start to make a living on the games I create!!!! Along with making games, I want to try and create 3d models to sell online. It will be good practice to concept, model, texture, rig and animate! I think that could be my "niche". I see a lot of good models, but not many are animated. I could make animated props and sell them! Guess I'll see how it goes. All of this is a LOT of risk taking, but if you aren't taking risks for what you want to do, are you really living? Well, I guess I'll find out. Stay tuned as awesomeness continues! After 3 blurry years I've graduated from Full Sail University!! Along with that, I achieved course director awards (I think 4) and was deemed valedictorian! Yeah I'm pretty awesome.
There was a lot of things Full Sail taught me, but one of the biggest is that I can't only work behind a computer. I spent %90+ of my awake time behind my computer by my self and it drove me crazy. I was feeling a bit depressed because of how little time I spent with others. If I were to continue in this way, I would probably have a meltdown of some kind. I'm working on scheduling time to hang out with friends at least a little bit. I guess I have limits I need to work around. Now that the easy part is done, I need to find a way to make some money! So I guess I'm an adult now? After a couple months of hard work, I've created my most professional looking work to date! This work has taught me a lot, and though it isn't perfect, I'm pretty happy with how it came out! |
